“Coach Emma” Emmanuel Okonkwo

You’re PMA pride and dedication will be missed by our community.

Emmanuel “Emma” Okonkwo, 47, of Merrimack, NH died September 21, 2016, at Elliot Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born in England on July 20, 1969, he was the son of Emmanuel and Hulda (Ezeukwu) Okonkwo. Emma earned a bachelor degree in science from Boston College. He was employed at Hitachi Cable America, Manchester, for nine years.

Emma was a soccer enthusiast, player, and coach. He was raised in Nigeria where played for the Enugu Rangers Football Club, before immigrating to the United States. He excelled with the Boston College Men’s Soccer Team and was named All American. He also played with several semi-professional soccer teams, including the New Hampshire Phantoms. Dedicated to teaching youth the love of the game, Emma coached Seacoast United, Boston Bolts, Campbell High School, Londonderry High School, Presentation of Mary, and the New England Football Club.

A loving and devoted father, he enjoyed spending time with his children. He will be missed by all who knew him. Family members include his two children, Aliyah and Jamari Okonkwo; a brother, Azuka Okonkwo of Nigeria; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; his former companion, Rebecca Wentworth; and his best-friends, Joel Ogbunamiri and Ike Ofoje.
